Curriculum Vitae (CV) | Mehmet Erbudak was given the title of Professor in the Department of Physics at the ETH Zurich, where he has been teaching surface physics since 1982. His research interests focus on the experimental determination of the electronic and atomic structure of solid surfaces. Born in 1945, from Istanbul and Greifensee, Switzerland, Mehmet Erbudak graduated from Robert College (Bosphorus University), Istanbul, in 1968. After completing his dissertation in 1972 at Yale University, New Haven, in the field of surface science, he joined Harvard University, Cambridge, where he was involved in the first photoemission experiments using synchrotron radiation. In 1979, he joined the faculty of the Physics Department at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara. At the ETH, Mehmet Erbudak and his students have developed secondary electron imaging (SEI) as a novel method to study surface structures. SEI allows the observation of atomic symmetry at surfaces in real time and real space. Mehmet Erbudak has consulting duties at different universities as well as at the United Nations. He is a member of national and international societies and is on the advisory board of the Turkish Journal of Physics. Recently, he has been awarded the 1997 Science Prize by the Turkish National Science Foundation (TUBITAK). |
