Curriculum Vitae (CV) | Rodney J. Douglas is full Professor of Theoretical Neuroinformatics as well as co-director of the Institute of Neuroinformatics. His central interest is the nature of computational processes in the cerebral cortex. Rodney J. Douglas, born on April 17, 1948 in Cape Town, South Africa, graduated from the University of Cape Town (M.B./Ch.B.) in medicine in 1974. He spent the following years working and researching at the Groote Schuur Hospital and Department of Physiology at the University of Cape Town and completed his Ph.D. in 1985. Prof. Douglas' research methods include practical neurophysiology (in-vivo / in-vitro), theoretical analysis and modeling, biophysics, applied computing, and the use of analog VLSI technology for the development of neuromorphic systems. Prof. Douglas has been visiting professor at the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH - Division of Biology) in Pasadena, CA since 1996.
