Susanne Rhein

Susanne Rhein is a PhD student at the Center for Comparative and International Studies and the Institute for Science, Technology and Policy since September 2021. She holds a Master’s degree in Political Science with a focus on comparative politics and international relations from the University of Salzburg, where she also completed her Bachelor’s degree. During her studies she held several positions as research assistant among others at the Horizon 2020 projects "Populism and Civic Engagement (PaCE)" and "The Choice for Europe since Maastricht (EMU Choices)".

In her PhD thesis she examines the political feasibility of policy designs that could potentially incentivize Carbon Dioxide Removal. She will approach this topic by relying on public opinion surveys and survey-embedded experiments. Her research mostly applies a micro-level perspective and concentrates on issues connected to environmental politics and comparative political economy. Her methodological focus is on quantitative methods. These interests are also reflected in Susanne’s master thesis which investigated the impact of drought exposure on political trust in East African countries with the goal to improve the micro-foundations of the climate-conflict nexus.
