Prof. em. Dr. Göran Andersson
Professor Emeritus at the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering|
|Curriculum Vitae (CV)|
Göran Andersson joined the Institute of Electrical Power Systems and High Voltage Technology at the ETH Zurich on 1 April 2000 as full Professor. He heads the Power Systems Group.
Göran Andersson was born on 7 June 1951 in Malmö, Sweden. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in engineering physics from Lund University in 1975 and 1980, respectively. After that he joined ASEA, now ABB, in Ludvika, Sweden, where he worked with power system simulation, control and design, in particular with High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) applications. In 1986 he was appointed full professor in Electric Power Systems at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, where he was until joining ETH. At KTH he was the head of thepower systems group. Main research topics were power systems dynamics and stability, e.g. voltage stability and angular stability, and power electronics in power systems. Most of the projects were carried out in collaboration with research groups abroad.
His research focuses on the use and application of system theory tools from e.g. control theory, operations research, optimisation, and more recently financial mathematics, in power system analysis. A main ambition is to develop models and tools based on advanced theories and methods to be used by practising engineers in the electric power industry. The on-going de-regulation, or liberalisation, of the energy industry sector has created new research topics that require new tools.
Göran Andersson is Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (KVA), and member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA).
