Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Since 2010 Andrea Frangi is Professor for Timber Structures at the Institute of Structural Engineering at ETH Zurich.


Andrea Frangi received his diploma in civil engineering from the ETH Zurich in 1995. He was a researcher at the Institute of Structural Engineering of ETH Zurich from 1995 to 2001 and received a Ph.D. in technical science from the ETH in 2001. From 2001 to 2003 he worked as project leader by the Structural Engineering Company “Read Jones Christoffersen” in Vancouver, Canada. He was responsible for the design of concrete, steel, timber and composite structures. From 2004 to 2009 he worked part time as project leader by the Structural Engineering Company “Marchand+Partner” in Zürich as well as senior scientist associate at the Institute of Structural Engineering of ETH Zurich. In 2010 he was appointed the title of Professor at the ETH Zurich. He is mainly interested in timber construction and fire safety engineering.


He is a member of the Swiss Society of Civil Engineers and Architects (SIA) and president of the Swiss Code Committee for Timber Structures. He is vice-chairman of TC250 SC5 (Eurocode 5, Timber Structures), chairman of TC250 SC5 WG4 (Eurocode 5, Timber Structures, Working Group Fire) and member of TC250 HGF (Horizontal Group Fire). He is member of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) and the International Association for Fire Safety Science (IAFSS). He is member of Lignum and president of the Swiss Wood Innovation Network (S-WIN).
