Konrad Graser’s research interests include organizational models for the implementation of digital fabrication in the AEC industries, the diffusion of systemic innovation in the AEC industries, and the effects of new technologies on construction project organization.
From 2015 to 2018, Konrad was the Project Manager / Lead Architect of DFAB HOUSE, a building-scale demonstrator of digital fabrication in construction initiated by the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) Digital Fabrication at ETH Zurich. His responsibilities included architectural design and technical planning, integration of research and industry contributions, and scale-up of new technologies from the experimental stage to building scale and code compliance.
Konrad Graser completed his diploma in architecture at ETH Zurich in 2004. Since then his focus has been on digital technology in architectural design with special interest in its integration in the physical building process.
As a project manager at SHoP Architects and VDC Manager at SHoP Construction in New York, from 2004 to 2012, he worked on the vertical integration of digital design and fabrication in the construction process, direct-to-fabrication workflows, and interdisciplinary R&D in sustainable building technologies.
From 2012 to 2015, Konrad worked as Project Manager Facade Engineering at Werner Sobek Stuttgart, where he was responsible for managing the digital design and engineering of large-scale complex building envelopes and façade systems.
Previous academic assignments include co-teaching a research and design studio at Yale School of Architecture, teaching design and advanced geometry as adjunct professor at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, and technical advising at the Institute for Lightweight Structures (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart. He is a registered architect in Switzerland (SIA) and LEED AP.
