Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Martin Quack has been full Professor of Physical Chemistry at ETH Zurich since 1983.

M. Quack (born 1948) received his doctoral degree in 1975 from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), working with Juergen Troe on unimolecular reactions, after previous studies of chemistry and chemical physics at the TH Darmstadt (Germany), University of Grenoble (France) and Goettingen University (chemistry degree in 1971, with a diploma thesis at the Max-Planck-Institutes for spectroscopy and biophysical chemistry). After a postdoctoral stay with W.H. Miller at the University of California, Berkeley (1976/77), Martin Quack received his venia legendi after habilitation in 1978 for Physical Chemistry at the University of Goettingen, where he was lecturer (Privatdozent) and professor (C2) until 1982. In that year he was appointed full professor at the University of Bonn, moving to ETH Zurich in 1983. From 1992 until 2008 he has been Delegate of Studies (Studiendelegierter) in Interdisciplinary Sciences at ETH (from 2008 Deputy Delegate of Studies).

Martin Quack has received the Nernst-Haber-Bodenstein prize (1982), the Otto Klung prize of the Free University of Berlin (1984) and the Otto Bayer prize (1991). He has been Hinshelwood lecturer and Christensen fellow (Oxford 1988) and was elected Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1990. He is an elected member of the Leopoldina (since 1998) and of the Berlin Brandenburgische (formerly Prussian) Academy of Sciences. In 2002 he received the Paracelsus Prize of the Swiss Chemical Society. He is a member of the Swiss National Research Council (Nationaler Forschungsrat) of the Swiss National Science Foundation. In 2009 he received an honorary doctorate (Dr. rer. nat. h.c.) from Goettingen University.
