Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Verena holds a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa that she finished in 2020 with distinction and honor (summa cum laude). Her interdisciplinary research improves the understanding of sustainable construction materials considering different spatial and temporal dynamics. She based her thesis on principles of Industrial Ecology and Urban Metabolism and is proficient in working with Material Flow Analysis, Life Cycle Assessment, and geoinformation systems. She has a strong interest in how future urbanization can be empowered by innovative design-based solutions. She currently is employed part-time as a post-doctoral research associate at the Chair of Sustainable Construction. She is also an ESG manager for FREO Group, an international real estate investor, developer and asset manager.. Verena’s work has been published in various international scientific journals.

Verena was born and raised in Germany. She completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at ETH Zurich. As an invited student, she did her Master thesis at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Afterwards she was a research assistant for one year at ETH’s Chair of Sustainable Construction in Zurich before moving to Lisbon to do her PhD. Moreover, she gained experience in real estate and infrastructure consulting during various internships in Switzerland.
